The President Welcomes Relatives of Injured Guard Soldiers to the White House
Former President Trump revealed on the weekend that he has invited the loved ones of a Guard member tragically killed last week to attend the White House.
He added that he spoke to her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Tragic Event
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a attack on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in critical condition.
Memorials across West Virginia have occurred in their honor.
White House Invitation
The president stated he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the parents of both members of the state Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” Trump informed reporters. “And similarly with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Response
Community members came together over the weekend at the high school in West Virginia to honor Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s federal initiative to assist law enforcement in Washington DC.
Paying Tribute to the Soldier
“She was the kind of student that teachers wished for. She carried herself with inner fortitude, a contagious smile and a optimistic attitude that lifted those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of her alma mater, told the Associated Press. “She was caring, compassionate and always eager to help others.”
Service arrangements for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Judicial Steps and Policy Changes
Law enforcement have charged a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with a charge of homicide and charges of violent assault while armed.
The event led the Trump administration to halt asylum applications and halt granting entry permits to owners of Afghan passports.
Status of the Airman
Wolfe, a resident of the city, enlisted in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, as reported by the Associated Press.
He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, the state’s leader Patrick Morrisey mentioned on television.
Attorney general the attorney general stated on a news show that she planned to meet with his relatives.
Legacy of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County High in mid-2023 and began her service not long after, working as a law enforcement officer with excellence, per the military.
“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had courage,” he addressed the audience at the memorial. “Though her life was cut short, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
