The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

Whenever a significant honors show nears, there’s always a demand to include of new categories to honor unsung work and delight the spirits of enthusiasts who have specialized interests.

Another commentator has already made supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, this being someone's personal cause. However, I must insist for pushing forward since similar to blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal stands as crucial and important of all. The demand is this: It's essential to create a category for puzzle games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; opinions vary greatly, and typically spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why film award organizations avoid this approach. However, it represents an essential concession within the realm of video games, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify as a single art form.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Present Award Structure

Leading game ceremonies offer these award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these six categories successfully include many game types, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears to put them. Think about these outstanding current releases, all very different: structural challenges in a particular game, intense tile-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. Which classification works among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers launched regularly that have no home in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive small studio competitions.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked for anything during that awards season
  • Another creative title was excluded in 2019
  • A beloved organization game was overlooked recently
  • Just some brain-teasers scraped into independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent small games, but the art in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among most popular titles globally continuing this trend for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience competes with well-known building titles competing to become highest-selling title ever; it additionally competes for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, while interacting across multiple categories.

Proposal and Rationale

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. It would be easy to populate a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these are games lacking appropriate categories in important events. Puzzle game makers function at the hard edge of video game design, producing among essential manifestations of gaming itself. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait decades.
