Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Defeat
Arne Slot conceded that it's natural for questions to be raised about his position after a further heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in 12 games, representing the team's worst run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received significant support from management,” Slot stated.
“It would be nice to turn it around and earn three points of course but if you are in a managerial role and underperforming then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “In the normal exchanges I sense the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Problems and Player Reaction
Slot lamented known failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones remarked.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a period such as this with results this poor.”
He stated, “However we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And as long as it is taken away, we'll continue to fight.”
“We’re going to try to get this team back to its rightful place, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and why it's known as the top club in the planet.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it must improve.”
