Lando Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at each of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the fastest time in the closing stages of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the championship lead from his teammate by just one point after winning in Mexico City recently, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Before then, Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before sprint qualifying due at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the points battle, sitting 36 points behind behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his Red Bull team ran a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to crash, if briefly, when he rotated at Turn Four early in the session.
The Japanese slid over the exit kerbs before sliding over the run-off area, and was lucky to escape with just a slight brush of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the conclusion of the practice, rotating twice through the high-speed corner leading to the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran finished practice in P19, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber P3, 0.619secs slower than the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
