Democratic lawmakers Criticize Trump After He Claims They Should Face Execution

Democratic officials expressed anger after Donald Trump alleged a contingent of Democratic representatives of being "betrayers" and stated they should be taken into custody and sentenced "by death" following their posting of a disputed video.

The Content That Sparked the Debate

The clip, released on Tuesday, showcases six Democratic elected officials who in the past worked in defense or intelligence capacities.

"As we did, you all made an oath to protect and support this constitution," the representatives declared in the short video. "And right now, the risks to our constitution don't only come from overseas, but from right here at home. Our statutes are unambiguous, you can reject improper directives, you can decline improper directives, you have to decline unlawful commands. No one has to follow commands that contravene the law or our constitution."

The Former President's Incensed Reply

The clip appeared to provoke a heated reaction from the ex-president.

On the following morning, Trump published on his preferred platform: "This constitutes SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these betrayers to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In an additional message, he stated: "This represents really bad, and Harmful to our Country. Their statements cannot be enabled to remain. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a third publication, he continued: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!" He also redistributed a comment that stated: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Opposition Officials React

Following Trump's statements on that day, Top Democrats published a unified statement censuring the statements.

"Partisan aggression has no position in America," they wrote. "Representatives who appeared in the video all served our country with tremendous national pride and distinction. We clearly censure Donald Trump's disgusting and dangerous calls for execution against elected officials, and urge GOP representatives to strongly do the same."

The opposition officials also said that they had been in communication with security officials "to make certain the protection of these officials and their relatives."

"Donald Trump must immediately delete these unhinged online messages and recant his aggressive language before he causes harm," the statement added.

Representatives' Defiant Reaction

The officials who appeared in the video also published a response.

"We identify as former service members and defense specialists who value this country and made an pledge to defend and uphold the constitution of the United States," they declared. "This commitment is permanent, and we intend to honor it. No warning, coercion, or promotion of aggression will prevent us from that fundamental duty."

"The significant point is that the president considers it liable to punishment by death for us to restate the legal requirements," they stated. "Our service members should recognize that we have their protection as they carry out their vow to the constitution and duty to follow only proper directives. It is not only the correct thing to do, but also our responsibility."

They added: "Every American must join forces and censure the president's calls for our death and ideological conflict. This is a period for principled stance."

Additional Partisan Comments

The Opposition leader also censured Trump's comments and published on online networks: "It's important to understand: the President of the United States is requesting the death of public representatives."

He added: "This is an clear THREAT. All senators, all representatives, every American – without partisan consideration – should condemn this right away and without qualification."

The GOP leader justified Trump's assertion that the Democrats had been involved in "treason", describing the video as "highly unsuitable", stating: "This constitutes very dangerous, you have prominent officials of the government instructing soldiers to defy commands, I think that is historic in American history."

The GOP official also allegedly stated to journalists that in what he examined of Trump's posts, Trump was "describing the offense of sedition" but that "lawyers have to parse the language and establish all that."

White House Response

During a White House press conference on later that day, when inquired by a journalist, "Is the president want to put to death members of Congress?", the executive branch representative replied: "Certainly not."

"We should understand about what the president is addressing," the official said. "You have sitting members of the American legislature who coordinated to orchestrate a digital communication to members of the national defense, to serving soldiers encouraging them to disobey the president's legal commands."

She said: "The purity of our military depends on the chain of command, and if that system is broken, it can lead to casualties, it can result in chaos, and that's what these elected officials ... are basically encouraging."
